Quiet House

Now all the kittens have all gone to their new homes the house is pretty quiet. I must admit I don't miss the litter tray cleaning or constant demands for food, but I do miss each one of them. It's nice to know that they have all gone to wonderful, loving homes and will probably be the centre of attention this Christmas. Looking at all the lovely photos and videos it's hard not to hope for a new litter soon. If Peanut would stop climbing the curtains and come into season we could have a new litter by Spring!

GCCF Registration Complete!

Great news! Our GCCF prefix registration has just come through. This means we are now officially called Blue Chocolate (snowshoes). This means that the registered name (prefix) of any kittens we breed will be Blue Chocolate. So, for example, if we had a kitten and called it Cookie it would be registered as Blue Chocolate Cookie. Hope you like the new name! xxx

Gretel's babies due around 25th April

The time for Gretel's kittens to be born is nearly here. She is due around 25th April and spends most of her time eating, waddling about and trying to find a comfortable position to lie in.She's even more affectionate to us and if it's possible, seems to have a very content look on her face. We felt a bit of a kick today- how exciting!

Stud Boy

We have now chosen a stud boy for Gretel. We have followed the advice of some more experienced breeders and have gone for a Canadian who is a fresh breed line. He is wonderful looking and has a good character. So we should have a litter of gorgeous softies! She is due to visit him when she turns one, then her kittens will be due at the end of January or beginning of February. Fancy one? Why not give me a call, a text or an email and I'll be happy to chat about it with no obligation.

Small Accident

Unfortunately Gretel has had a little accident last week and has subsequently missed the TICA show in Leicester on the 31st May. I'm just happy that she's OK.

She managed to jump onto a metal shelf in the kitchen and hang herself by her leg! Luckily we were in the next room and rescued her within seconds. The vet was worried that she had a fracture but it quickly turned out to be a sprain, thank god. I have had a few sleepless nights watching over her.

She is a very good patient! The vet didn't even charge us for the second visit- I think it's because she has a soft spot for Gretel. She had a little trouble examining her because all she could do was purr and roll around on the examining table.

The shelving has now been moved out of her way, in addition to removing toys with string before we leave the room, unplugging all appliances so she doesn't tie herself up, checking the toilet lid is always down at all times etc, etc.

Snowshoes are definately adventurous- thank god they are so affectionate, funny and adorable!

Gretel doesn't like water

According to some websites, Snowshoes can enjoy water. Gretel, however, does not. Last night she leaped head-first into my bath and you can see the result! I scooped her up before she even resurfaced but the damage was already done. She dried out suprisingly quickly and is non-the worse for her experience. I now keep an eye on her at bathtimes and always keep the toilet lid down!

Triumph at Lincoln

Gretel, our Snowshoe kitten attended the Humberside Cat Club Show at Lincoln Show ground. Not only was it her first tripto a cat show, but ours too. I was very worried about how she would react but was supprised at how relaxed she was. I followed several tips from show and breed websites and blogs.

We were very lucky to have Gretel's breeder with us, Linzi Lee http://www.sodachicats.com, she looked after us and showed us the ropes. We also met a fellow Snow Shoe breeder Jean Elms http://www.reshmacats.com/ and her lovely kitten, Saffron. Jean has been breeding lovely Norweigan Forest cats for years and had lots of breeding and showing advice for us.

Gretel gained a Merit in her assessment class (the best you can get). Snowshoe cats are an assessment breed with the GCCF (the governing cat organisation) - for more info go to http://www.gccfcats.org. She enterered three other classes and gained two 2nds and a 3rd. Four rosettes on her first show- what a star!

I was really proud of her calm, friendly manner. The judges made some lovely comments about her and it's great to know that she's a very good example of the breed. With the exception of a lovely sphinx kitten next to us Gretel and Saffon got the most attention from the public and constantly had a crowd of people around their pens. The best thing about Snowshoes is that they are so unusual and demand attention from even experienced cat people..
